The Burning Question

We use the term daily but I'm sure 90% of people don't know what it stands for. The experienced players I ask don't know either so can someone inform us all on what 'fs' (as in a friendly match) stands for?

Yes thats right.

Freundschaftsspiel = FS

Freundschaft (its a noun) = "friendly" (adjective)
Spiel (also a noun) = "match" (noun)

correctly its "freundschaftliches (adjective !) Spiel" in German but we made a noun out of that two words (the linguistic/germanistic process is called "Nominalisierung") to the official noun "Freundschaftsspiel".

I think the equivalent of "Freundschaftsspiel" is in English just "friendly".

We play a Freundschaftsspiel = We play a friendly
